Attachment to each parent is a biological protective mechanism. This works well for children who have healthy parents, but for those who have been abandoned, abused, or estranged from a parent, the attachment proves painful. Every child needs help improving his relationship with each of his parents. That means mothers owe it to their children to help improve their relationships with their fathers and vice versa. This, however, can be no easy task, particularly if one parent has a lot of anger toward the other.
Good parenting means doing what’s best for children, which requires sacrifice. Doing well by our children can be hard, but every ounce of energy we put into our children comes back to us tenfold. One of the best gifts that we can give our children is our help improving their relationship with the opposite parent.
